Covenant Example Suggested Scripture Reading: 1 Sam. 18: 1-14; 20: 8, 14, 17 Rom. 15: 4 Our Covenant
Example is the covenant between David and Jonathan. Keep in mind that covenant
principles are; grace, mercy, and loving-kindness. Covenant promises are Love,
Equality, and Protection. Covenant is a binding agreement unless the weaker
party breaks it, bringing destruction. As in all blood covenants there is an
exchange of garments, girdles, and weapons. All of the possessions, strength and
abilities of the stronger party in covenant legally belong to the weaker party !
It would be advantageous to read the Tabernacle Teaching of "Aaron's
Rod" before this teaching to bring you up to date on David of Judah. After David
killed Goliath with the five smooth stones taken from a brook, shunning the
armor of King Saul, (remember this Saul leadership was what the children of God
desired), the spirit of jealousy ruled Saul because the nation began to praise
the exploits of David. Saul sought to kill David. This is a prevalent action
when an order of leadership sees a preferred anointing rising in their midst It is vital we know that the Head of our covenant (Jesus Christ) killed the power of the adversary at the very beginning of the battle, and as David of the first covenant, took a five-fold ministry and trained His mighty men to kill the other giants in Goliath's family. The stones came out of water and the moving of the water had smoothed them, just as the Water of the Word will smooth all the rough edges from stones used to attack the enemy. Please know, Jesus Christ is perfecting His five-fold ministry in those He calls into this servitude to His Body. We need to patiently allow Him to do this work, or else we will run with zeal, but not according to knowledge. After Saul's death, David reigned 7 years as king over Judah and then 33 years as king over all Israel, with a leadership equaled to no one except his son Solomon. When Israel rested from conquering the enemy, David remembered the covenant cut with Jonathan and inquired as to whether any of the house of Saul remained that he could show kindness to. Saul's servant (Ziba) remembered a son of Jonathan (Mephibosheth), who was dwelling in Lodebar in fear of David. This is such a picture of the children of the systems that God had anointed prior to bring forth His Preferred Anointing in His Kings and Priests. This young man was carried by his nurse (God help those who just know how to feed milk) who fell with him when running from God's preferred anointed. Leaving Jerusalem (House of Bread) and going into the desert to Lodebar (Barren of Bread), fearing the very anointing that could bless him and preserve Him.When the messenger David sent to Mephibosheth arrived in Lodebar, this son of Jonathan was fearful...but returned to Jerusalem and fell before David in fear. However, David restored all to him all that belonged to his father and extended an invitation to eat at his table all the days of his life. David provided Mephibosheth a change of garment. This is the position of covenant for us. Why linger in the desert with out the Bread when there is an invitation to the prepared table of our Covenant Head and restoration of what belonged to us before the disobedience in the garden; and be clothed with the garment of righteousness He provides!! Seated there with the King at his table, can't you imagine the thoughts running through Mephibosheths mind...why am I here?....why these blessings for me?.... I have done nothing to deserve this. Just suppose he sees the scar in David's wrist !! AAAH that is why I am here, it is not me...it is nothing I have done...it was because my father cut covenant with him. Children we are engraved in the palms of Jesus hands, we eat at His table because HE cut covenant for us...we don't deserve this, we just heeded the call of His messenger and came and bowed before Him and He gave us a new garment, restored us...invited us to eat with Him...PRAISE THE LORD. |
