HOLINESS : WHAT IT IS AND WHAT IT AIN'T
While visiting my youngest daughter in Kansas City several years ago the Spirit spoke audibly to me, saying "Without holiness no man shall see God". The audible voice of the Lord always gets my undivided attention and I jotted down what He said. The Spirit continues " I have called you unto holiness". These are scriptures that are very familiar to the children of God, found in Heb. 12:14 and 1st. Thess. 4:7. My bible lay nearby and I began to read and talk with God. When Isaiah prophesied about the coming of the Redeemer, he said there would be a highway of holiness (35:8) and Paul spoke of the spirit of Holiness in Rom. 1:4 and 6:19,22. When God commanded his children, upon their deliverance from bondage, to be holy as He is holy, the entire chapter of Lev. 19 and of course, much of Lev 10 and 11 are devoted to the attributes of holiness. Sometimes we pass over God's teachings in the first covenant, not realizing that Jesus Christ revealed Himself in the writings of Moses and the Prophets. He too, said be holy as your father in heaven is holy (perfect). When God begins to speak with me by His Spirit and I need to know something...I ask Him just as I would ask my Papa when, as a child growing up, I did not understand clearly what he was saying. So, I asked God why did it say that ALL would look upon Him, if holiness was a prerequisite for seeing Him? He answered back... "that is at the end of the age", My desire is to reveal myself to my children and their lack of holiness is hindering the revelation. We must be holy to have a revelation of Jesus Christ. It is not how much Word we have studied and learned.. it is how much Word we walk in that changes our corrupt nature to a holy vessel that can receive from the Spirit. Children, before Gen. 1:1, we were in the heart of God. There was a purpose, and plan, and calling before we were created. It was for us to be conformed to the image of Jesus Christ.. and to love God in return. It takes the new birth to activate the purpose of God in our life. God saw us drinking from this world's wells to satisfy our thirst and offered to put a river of life in us. God's love does not grab us away from our carnal walk IT DRAWS. He has set before us a banqueting table and the banner over us is love. As a word of warning, after you feast at this table the Sunday morning "fast-food" and "warmed-over food" will not satisfy. This is what Paul mentions in the very first verse of his writings to the church at Rome. His calling was to apostleship, his consecration was as servant and his commission or separation was unto the Word of God. It is vital to be separated UNTO the Word... it is not enough just to be separated from the world...it is vital we be separated UNTO the gospel of Jesus Christ. This is not a vain repetition..it is stressed twice because it is essential in order to walk in holiness. God has given us the plan very plainly on how to be a servant walking in love. It is called "LOVE SLAVE" Stop asking for more love and pray to understand His love. He is waiting for us to come and allow Him to reveal to us His boundless love. It is not a lack of love we have, just a lack of the revelation of His love. As He reveals Himself to us (remember the golden lampstand revealed Himself first and then the bread table and prayer altar), we experience His love. Paul was a bond or love slave to Jesus Christ as was Jesus to His Father. Not a hireling, but by an act of his own will, he indentured himself to the gospel of Jesus Christ, being bound to Him for life, serving with love and devotion and NO DESIRE TO BE FREE. In Ex. 21:1-6, Deut. 15:12-17 we learn that if a child of God had a debt he cannot pay, he goes to one who is able to take care of his debt and becomes his slave. Praise God. Then at the end of 7 years (this is important), he can leave his master....but, if he has married a wife and does not want to leave her and loves his master (See there is a problem of Love), he goes to his master and says, " I love my master" and goes before witnesses with this declaration and publicly has his ear pierced (at the door--!! !!), choosing a public piercing to show his love. Oh glory to God. Legal claim is discharged and his name is written in his master book (a covenant is made) and he is now a love slave, and trusted servant in the household of his master. Bound by love, not law. Has our ear been pierced.. can we hear what the Spirit is saying to the church. Is there a spirit of holiness in us? Jesus chose to be a servant.. we are His bride. Say children, people in those days when Paul wrote the Roman epistle knew what slavery was. Here he introduces Jesus as God's Love Slave and Love reveals this commandment "As I was sent -so send I you". Paul preached nearly 30 years and the 15th chapter of Romans proves his apostleship. He was a man on the way up, but first he was knocked off his high horse..saw a light..recognized Jesus...called Him Master, was blinded to this world and then receives vision from God and was BAPTIZED..NOT RECEIVED BY THE "CHURCH"....WENT INTO THE DESERT OF ARABIA AND CAME OUT THREE YEAR LATER PREACHING THE SAME MESSAGE as the ones who walked with Jesus in His earthly walk. Being a love slave ruins you to the world...however you can still cause kings and rulers to be tempted to believe...even as they try to enslave you. Sorry boys...Paul is already a love slave of Jesus Christ and bondage to some governmental FORCE DOES NOT BIND HIS MINISTRY OF JESUS. Glory to God.
