Walking Among The Elders I have walked among the elder, growing fat on meat of lore, While the blind and lame are wandering, the bride halting and poor. I have sat upon the ashes… my soul withdrawn and lean, No longer hungry for the doctrine spewed from hearts unclean… The vestige has been trampled and things are not as they seem. Passage has been hindered by the many sacred idols- Structures of much thinking, symbol, type and shadow. I am compelled to ask, Where is the simplicity of our task? Have we ranked in such high honor To deny the reality of God’s
power? Hands that are clean, hearts that are pure, Tried in the fire and taught to endure. The fear of the lord stirring desire, A love completed in Consuming Fire. Holy decrees to lay down our life, Parting from lying, hatred and strife. To esteem our brothers more than ourselves, The base of the gospel…my friend, this is wealth. Deceitful riches do not bring much gain. But devours the spirit and causes great pain. Spirituality is more than being seen or heard, It’s taking up the cross and living his word. The Standard must be lifted again, To restore paths for people to
dwell in. September 12, 2000 |
